This is true for most of Open source companies right now!
(Warning... technical contents below!)
e.g. Eclipse IDE from IBM and JAVA Beans from SUN are very much similar. Very much like "non-idendical" twins...
You would, most of the times, fine the same feature in both places, may be under lying implementation would be different...
The technology is proven... and most of the time there is no point of return once you have chosen on either of the IDE...
There is an active development community to guide others! (Power of opens source)
What do you need here, for increasing your market reach! Evangalists.

Excellent example.Don't have much about Java Beans(since I am somewhat naive to these technologies :() but yes,Open Source is a great example
